Vegan chocolate is getting more and more love from those following a plant-based lifestyle! At its core, it usually contains just two main ingredients: cocoa (for that rich chocolatey goodness) and a natural sweetener like coconut sugar or agave nectar. Cocoa solids give chocolate its deep color and signature flavor, while the sweetener balances the bitterness and adds a touch of creaminess. Some vegan chocolates (like ours!) also include nuts, fruit, or spices for extra flavor and texture—these can vary from brand to brand.
It depends on the type! Dark vegan chocolate can last up to two years if stored properly (cool, dry, away from heat and sunlight). Vegan "milk" and white chocolates generally have a shorter shelf life due to their higher fat content, typically lasting six months to a year before the oils start to break down. One perk? Since vegan chocolate doesn't contain dairy, it tends to stay stable at room temperature longer than regular milk chocolate. Our Drach-Oc vegan chocolate has a one-year shelf life, but honestly—who’s waiting that long to eat it?
We manufacture our chocolate in Malaysia, where we carefully craft each batch using high-quality ingredients.
The best way? Check the ingredients list! If you see dairy, milk powder, cream, or any other animal by-products—sorry, not vegan. Also, be on the lookout for hidden non-vegan ingredients like whey, casein, or certain flavorings. When in doubt, look for a "vegan" label on the packaging!
Our cacao comes from our own farm in Cambodia, while we proudly source our other ingredients from Malaysia, organic blossom sugar from Indonesia, and various regions across Southeast and East Asia.
Because we believe in better sweetness! White sugar? No thanks. We kicked it out for good. Instead, we use blossom nectar from the coconut palm tree—a natural, lower-GI sweetener that helps avoid sugar spikes. Tastes amazing and is better for you? Yep, that’s our kind of sweet deal.
Whatever you do, don’t put it in the fridge! Chocolate is a flavor sponge—it absorbs the smells around it (garlic-scented chocolate, anyone?). Plus, fridge moisture can cause sugar bloom—when sugar rises to the surface and makes the chocolate look dusty (totally fine to eat, just not as pretty). Instead:
✔ Store it in a cool, dry place
✔ Keep it at a steady temperature below 21°C (ideally 18-20°C)
✔ Avoid humidity over 55%
✔ Seal it tight—cocoa butter picks up surrounding smells, so unless you want chocolate with a hint of curry, keep it in an airtight container!
